What supplements do horses really need?

The quantity of each vitamin that horses need is small however the effects they have on your horse's health are important. What is the most important nutrient for horses?
Water. It sounds simple but horses cannot live for longer than 3 days without any water, it is the most important part of their diet besides food. On average horses drink about 2 litres of water for every 1lbs of hay they consume and in warmer weather, after strenuous activity or if lactating, they will consume 3 times their normal amount. Therefore you must always make sure that your horse has constant access to clean, fresh water.
